Optimist Club of Niles 2011 Service Award Scholarship
One of this year's Optimist Club of Niles $1,000.00 service award scholarships was awarded to Alexandra Nitti. She is a recent graduate of Maine East High School. While at Maine East Alexandra was involved in student council and participated in such events as blood drives, clothing drives, and much more. She also is involved in communitty service activities, such as organizing food baskets, which were distributed at Culver School, Field School, and the Niles Senior Center. Alexandra was also involved with "Race to Wrigley" - A 5k run that benefits Children Memorial Hosipital. Alexandra will be attending North Park College in the fall to major in Nursing. The other service award was presented to Theresa Casey. Theresa graduated from Resurrection College Prep and will be attending Marquette University. While at Resurrection she participated in a Kiwanis Key Club which exposed her to great areas of need. As a member of National Honor Society she participated in over 100 hours of community service annually. Her community service work at St. John Brebeuf included teaching GLADD classes and a member of the Junior St. vincent DePaul Society. She also coordinated volunteers to work Misericordia Home events.
